Rod Quinn has been teaching my son drums for over six years now and I
couldn’t possibly recommend him highly enough. He has been a hugely
inspiring and enthusiastic mentor for Morgan since day one.
He has gone far beyond the traditional role of ‘teacher’ in terms of his understanding of how Morgan best learns and is, in part, responsible for fostering in him a love of music that he will enjoy for life.
For me, dealing with Rod has always been an absolute pleasure; he is flexible and very generous with his time. Morgan still looks forward to his Tuesday lessons and the chat about music that he and Rod have together.
For me, all these years later, that says it all.
Our son David started playing drums when he was ten and was very keen
to get lessons. He started lessons with Rod Quinn when he was twelve
and Rod channelled his interest into playing and studying for exams with
David acquired distinctions up to grade 5 and this was very useful to him in auditioning for the Dublin Youth Orchestra , with whom he is now lead percussionist in the concert orchestra.
Rod also gave David the confidence to record music with his own band of school mates, so they have produced 3 cd’s and enjoyed the experience of the recording studio. They also played open air concerts in our town and won competitions in ‘battle of the bands’
David is 17 now and plays percussion and the kit in the school orchestra. He has a very keen interest in music , principally the drums, we are confident that through the inspiration and discipline and focus on exams by attending Rod’s lessons , David will hopefully go on to study music in college.
“Whenever I can, I make the trip from Cork to Dublin for a lesson
with Rod and for the chance to ask questions about music and drumming
technique, and to get new ideas for things to work on.
It’s also great to get his professional advice on building my own playing career and how to handle different musical situations. I always leave feeling very inspired.”
